U.S. VeteranFuneral services for Vernon E. Hicks, 71, of Jefferson, Texas will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 20, 2012 at the Capt. Wm. Perry Chapel of Haggard Funeral Home with the Reverend Darrel Goynes officiating. Interment will follow at the Hicks Family Cemetery under the direction of Haggard Funeral Home of Jefferson. Visitation will be held Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Hicks was born in Texarkana, TX. November 4, 1940, to Ivey Lee and Bertha Irene Maxey Hicks. He passed away February 14, 2012 in Jefferson, Texas. He served in the USAF 22 years and retired a Tech Sgt. Vernon worked for the City of Jefferson 22 years as a supervisor for the Water Dept. until his retirement. Upon retirement he became a stay at home poppa to his granddaughter, Makayla.

He loved the great outdoors, which included gardening, taking care of his livestock & birds. He enjoyed many hobbies such as building birdhouses, riding 4-wheelers & watching westerns.

He is survived by, Joyce Pauline Swank Hicks of Jefferson, his bestfriend & wife since 1958, their children, Randall Lee Hicks, Sr. of Haughton, LA., Bridget Joyce Christy of Marshall, TX., Gretchen Marie Arceneaux of Walker, LA., Theresa Mary Hutchison of Malakoff, TX., Michelle Renee Singletary of Lumberton, TX., Jonnie Elizabeth Baker of Jefferson, TX., sisters, Margaret Irene Westmoreland of Jefferson, TX., Mary Wanda Lee Whitaker of Texarkana, TX., Juanita Ann McDowell of Texarkana, TX., and Vera Mae Brown of Longview, TX. His grandchildren, Makayla Barr, Randall Hicks, Jr., Kristi Hicks,Micheal McGray, Nicholas McGray, Chesserrae Ingram, Jessica Ingram, Cody Ingram, Cayley Christy, Elora Christy, Sgt. Joseph Quada, Justin Quada, Jeremey Quada, Jamie Renberg, Allen Lewis, Camryn Lewis, Senior Airman Robert J. Garrison, Russell Garrison, Kaleigh Garrison, & numerous great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Randall Hicks, Jr., Cody Ingram, Russell Garrison, Allen Lewis, Justin Quada, and Jeremey Quada.

Honorary Pallbearers will be son, Randall Hicks, Sr., & sons-in-law, Aaron Baker, Dallas Arceneaux, Scott Singletary, Lee Christy & Russell Hutchison
