Edward Milton Jones passed away on September 30, 2017. Services will be held Wednesday, October 4 at 2:00 p.m. in the Capt. Wm. Perry Chapel of Haggard Funeral Home with graveside services to follow at Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Haggard Funeral Home.

Visitors will be received at the family home on Tuesday, October 3 from 4-6 pm.

Born February 14, 1929 in Jefferson to Elmer Lyon Jones and Madge Hicks Jones, Milton graduated from Baylor University in 1951 with a BBA degree in accounting. He served in the U.S. Navy August 1951 – January 1955. He completed boot camp in San Diego, California, and later served as a lieutenant junior grade and communications officer aboard the USS Talladega (APA-208). Spent two months moving resources from Japan to Korea following the armistice.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Lions Club, Old Oakwood Cemetery Association, and was a deacon of the First Baptist Church. Milton served as Mayor of Jefferson from 1961-65, past president of the Marion County Chamber of Commerce, and member of the Industrial Foundation of Jefferson. Milton followed in his father’s footsteps in business as owner of Jones Insurance Agency and was a director of the First National Bank.

He also served as a cast member of the Diamond Bessie Murder Trial beginning in 1955 for over 52 years.

An avid gardener, Milton loved to work in his vegetable garden and with his numerous potted plants and flowers, building a backyard paradise complete with waterfalls, fountains and ponds. He also enjoyed woodworking.

He loved his family and was very proud of them. He was an especially loving husband and companion to his wife Margaret of 65 years.

Milton was preceded in death by his parents, brother Granville Hicks (Pete) Jones, and daughter Marjorie Gail Jones. He is survived by his wife Margaret, daughters Marianne Jones and Mickie Moore, granddaughters Ashley Moore, Jamie Ovalle and husband Dallas of Arlington, Haley Moore of Fort Worth, and great-grandchildren Landry and Jett Ovalle.

Pallbearers include: Jerry Smoak, Dave Little, Brad Priddy, Danny Williams, Tommy Williams, Edward Williams, Jack Rasberry, Jimmy Moore and Wayne Grubbs. Honorary pallbearers are, Dallas Ovalle, Stanford Brantley and Edward Joseph.
