Funeral services for Mrs. Lou Ann Gatlin Owens, 88, of Avinger are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at Lake O’ The Pines Baptist Church with Pastor Shawn Thrapp officiating. Private interment in Mansfield, LA under the direction of Haggard Funeral Home. A visitation of family and friends is planned from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday the 17th in the Capt. Wm. Perry Chapel of Haggard Funeral Home in Jefferson.

Mrs. Owens was born March 25, 1930 in Lafayette, LA to Howard Leon, Sr. and Mary Clementine McBride Gatlin and passed away July 13, 2018 at her home in Avinger.

Mrs. Owens was a nurse most of her life starting out as an LPN surgery nurse at Doctors Hospital Shreveport, LA and then Louisiana State University Medical Center Shreveport, LA until 1981. Lou Ann earned her degree as a Registered Nurse from Northwestern State University Natchitoches, LA in 1977. In 1981 when husband LaFrance Owens retired, they moved to Bunch, Ok. where she worked at Stilwell Memorial Hospital until she retired.  Lou Ann loved flowers and working in the yard. Later in life Lou Ann was blessed by two church families, First Baptist Church of Haughton, LA and Lake O’ The Pines Baptist Church of Avinger, TX. She loved and encouraged Pastors Gevan Spinney and Shawn Thrapp.

She will be missed by her family and friends, but now she is truly home with her Lord. She is having a wonderful family reunion with her husband, parents, brother and grandson.

Mrs. Owens is preceded in death by her parents and husband LaFrance Owens, brother; Howard Leon Gatlin, Jr., and grandson; Matthew Timon.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children; Mary Ann Hawk & husband Sam of Walnut Grove, MO., Howard E. Timon of Shreveport, LA, Paula W. Yates of Avinger, grandchildren; Scott Coburn & wife Traci of Walnut Grove, MO., Marci Westermier & husband Dan of Branson, MO., Chris Conrad & husband Randy of Walnut Grove, MO., Suzanne Drake & husband Warren of Panama City, FL., Grant Timon & wife Alisha of Stonewall, LA, Chris Timon of LA, Cory Yates of Clarksville, TN., Will Yates of Wausau, WI., Justin Yates of Avinger, TX. 18 great grandchildren and 13 great-great grandchildren.
