Mrs. Mildred Smith Loomis Obituary

Mildred Smith Loomis, born on October 8, 1933 in Jefferson, Texas, passed away Saturday, March 17, 2018 in Dallas, Texas.

Mildred was the oldest of four children born to Gervas and Addine (Cromer) Smith.  She attended Jefferson schools and was chosen High School Harvest Queen in 1949.  In the 1960’s she was a dedicated volunteer for the Marion County Republican Party.  She was a previous member of the Jefferson Krewe of Hebe serving as Mardi Gras Queen in 2000.

She married Sam Loomis (deceased) of Jefferson in 1950.  They had two children, Sandra and Gus.  She was extremely proud of her children’s success in their educational and professional pursuits, Sandra as an educator and Gus as an Air Force officer.

Mildred worked for Milton Jones Insurance Agency and Thiokol for a number of years.  In 1974 she went to work for the Federal Aviation Administration in Dallas before returning home to Jefferson in 1998.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, James “Bubba” Smith; and sister, Rosemary Smith Reed.  She is survived by her children Sandra McMahon of Rockwall, Texas; Gus Loomis (Barbara) of San Antonio, Texas; sister, Anita Perot (Victor) of Jefferson, Texas; brother-in-law, Windel Reed of California; grandchildren, Jeremy McMahon (Kelli), Brennan McMahon (April), Heather Loomis (John Waller), Laura Loomis, Trevor Loomis; nine great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be held Monday, March 26 in the Cpt. Wm. Perry Chapel at Haggard Funeral Home in Jefferson, Texas from 5:00-7:00 P.M. with graveside services the following morning, Tuesday, March 27 at 11:00 at Oakwood Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142, the First United Methodist Church of Jefferson at 305 West Henderson Street, Jefferson, TX 75657, or a charity of your choice.

Her deeply held opinions and love of family and country will be greatly missed.
