Randolph Patman Haggard

Graveside services for Mr. Randolph Patman Haggard, 83, of Jefferson are scheduled for 2:30 p.m Sunday, November 12, 2017 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Mt. Pleasant, TX. with Dennis Morris officiating under the direction of Haggard Funeral Home. Visitation will be Saturday November 11, 2017 from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Haggard was born August 23, 1934 in Mt. Pleasant, TX. to Willie Elzy and Nora Louellan Holland Haggard and passed away November 2, 2017 in Longview.

Mr. Haggard served in the US Army 1955-1957, and served 21 months in Germany assigned to judge Advocate Section as Court Reporter.

He attended the University of Texas in Austin 1954-1958; graduated from East Texas State University in Commerce in 1960 with BBA degree in accounting. 

Mr. Haggard was employed in Dallas 1960-1972 primarily with Dr. Pepper Bottling Co. (nine years) as accounting department head. He relocated to Caddo Lake in 1972 and assumed management of Lakeview Lodge Catfish Restaurant with his brother Sonny. This highly successful and well known eatery was established in 1947 by their Dad and his wife Pat. (deceased 1968). Operation of the restaurant continued to be successful until a total loss fire destroyed the building on the night of 6/1/1984.

Randolph married Carol Daniel of Linden in 1975 and they had a daughter, Bree Ann born at noon 5/31/1984.

A newly constructed restaurant opened on Dec. 8, 1984 under ownership and management by Randolph and Carol, finally closing in 1987.  About this time, Randolph was a co-founder and Charter Member of the Gray Volunteer Fire Dept. serving as its first secretary/treasurer for a number of years. Randolph was employed as a rural mail carrier for 13 ½ years with the Jefferson Post Office, retiring in 2008. It was during this time that he became a cancer fighter/survivor, supporting a number of charities dedicated to finding a cure for this deadly disease.

Mr. Haggard is preceded in death by his brother Kenneth, 1952, sister Virginia, 1979, brother  Sonny, 2007, sister Marie, 2008, brother Mickey, 2010.

Those left to cherish his memory are daughter, Bree Ann, granddaughter Gia,  and grandson Knox, all of Austin, TX., first cousins, Jacivon Nelson of Mt. Pleasant,  Danny Garretson of Hurst, TX., Nieces; Barbara Davidson of Jefferson, Donna Kay Buckhannon of Dallas, Robbie Babb of Dallas, Michele Stinson of Kensington, MD., Lesley Braddock of Broomfield, CO., Karen Fuller of Dallas, nephews; Will Haggard of Longview, Michael Haggard of Newbury, CA., Adam Kleist of Bend, OR and Kenny Kleist of Red Oak, TX

Honorary Pallbearers include; James Sinclair, Bill Sinclair, Weldon Miller, Will Haggard, Clint Coyne, Frankie Stone, Edward Scarborough and Neal Hinson.

In lieu of flowers the family asks memorials to be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 1501 King’s Hwy. Shreveport, LA. 71104 or American Cancer Society, 1301 S. Broadway Ave., Tyler, TX. 75701.
