Robert Loyd “Bob” Birmingham was born to Marvin Franklin Birmingham Sr. and Nellie Ford Birmingham in Mirando City, Texas on October 8, 1933 and died Wednesday December 27, 2017 in Jefferson, Texas at the age of 84.

Following the death of his father in 1940, his mother moved him and his siblings back to Jefferson where he attended Jefferson Public schools.

Bob served proudly in the United States Army and later, the National Guard for a number of years.

After living in Dallas for many years, Bob moved back to Jefferson to be with his mother.

Bob was a member of the Jefferson Masonic Lodge #38, Shriners, Eastern Star, Mustang Patrol and the Gideons.

He worked for Vineyards and Brookshires Grocery, where he made many friends while taking their groceries to their cars. He never met a stranger.

Bob was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jefferson and loved singing in the choir.

He is survived by his sister, Gloria Bennett Brooks of Jefferson, a brother, Edwin Jackson of Natchez, Mississippi, brother-in-law Harold Brooks of Jefferson, three nieces, Kathryn Medlin, Gail Birmingham and Molly Pryor, seven nephews, Barry Bennett, Kyle Bennett, John Birmingham, Todd Marshall, Ron Westbrook, John Westbrook and David Westbrook and numerous great nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather Walter Jackson, one brother, Marvin Franklin Birmingham, Jr., two sisters, Gladys Jean Jackson Westbrook and Lillian Jackson Marshall and three brothers in law, Bill Bennett, Pete Marshall and Bill Westbrook.

Bob loved to sing. While at Cypress Place and Magnolia Place on the Terry Unit, he needed no encouragement to sing his “favorite Amazing Grace.”

He was very special to his family and to many in Jefferson, He had a kind spirit and loved everyone.

The family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff at Cypress Place, Magnolia Place, The Terry Unit, Dr. Ted Trimble, MD and to Heritage Hospice for their loving care and kindness to our beloved Bob. Also, a special thank you to those of you who drove him to meetings, or picked him up while he was walking to and from town. We appreciate all of you that loved himn the way he was.

Bob truly appreciated every kindness shown to him. He was a gentle, kind soul who loved others as Christ loved him. He spoke often of Heaven and its beauty and glory. It comforts his family to know he is with his Lord and family. He will be greatly missed by those who loved him.
