Memorial Services for Ann Childress, 78, of Jefferson, Texas will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 11:00am in the Cpt. Wm. Perry Chapel of Haggard Funeral Home with Bro. John Givens officiating and under the direction of Haggard Funeral Home.
Lois Ann Childress was born September 28, 1946, in Waldo, AR. to LuGene and David Van Huss and passed away on August 8, 2025, surrounded by family and her devoted dog, DD.
She was a licensed beautician and later in life, the school secretary at Jefferson High School for 35 years, where she was loved by many and known as “Mom”. She was also a talented seamstress and a member of the Cooties, the women’s auxiliary of the VFW. There is a credible rumor that she was a go-go dancer at some time in her life. It is also said she is the only woman in the family who never shot at anyone on purpose. She was not famous for her cooking skills, and it was suspected that her oven was used for storage only. If it was plugged in at all.
She had a second adolescence in her retirement, spending her time being both a cougar and a Nana and teaching her oldest granddaughter how to crawl. Pub crawl.
Ann traveled as often as she could and had a plan to live on a cruise ship instead of going to a nursing home. She practically lived on a cruise ship anyway.
The roads between Jefferson and the casinos were in poor shape, largely because of her traffic and she was very apologetic about that. She enjoyed listening to live music, karaoke night, dancing and having a Dewars, not necessarily in that order. Ann was always dressed to the nines and looking for the next party.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and siblings, Dyrika Van Huss and Debbie Skaggs.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Chantelle and Kyle Stroman of Ore City, DeWayne and Cynthia Holloway of Wing, AL, and Billy and Kelly Childress of Jefferson; grandchildren, Kelsey and Kash Tomlinson, Eron Holloway, Danielle and Montana Henderson, Dalton Holloway, Dustin Childress, Blain Childress; great grandchildren, Kase and Kollins Tomlinson and Blake Henderson; siblings, David and Ambrosia Van Huss, and Danita and Rodney Ellis. She is also survived by her life partner, Ricky Lawson, of Jefferson and a host of extended family and friends.
