In the early morning hours of Saturday August 22, 2020 W. N. Otwell, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather went home to be with the Lord at the age of 83.

W.N. was born on April 12, 1937 in Bodcaw, Arkansas to Will Newton Otwell and Sarah Josephine Morris Otwell.  Upon graduating high school, he joined the United States Navy.  He married Charlotte Carroll, the love of his life, his devoted and faithful helpmeet in ministry on December 26, 1957.   They were blessed with 62 years of marriage.

W.N. accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Saviour in the fall of 1958 and in 1964 surrendered his life to the ministry.  Preaching the gospel became not only his profession, but his passion.  He was known for his boldness to faithfully preach the truth of the gospel without compromise. The Lord used his fervent dedication and work ethic to plant five churches across Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas over several years. He started a Boy’s Home in Fort Worth Texas in 1982.  For Pastor Otwell, who held 2 honorary doctorates, pastoring faithfully for 49 years, meant not only preaching the gospel to a lost and dying world, but a sincere commitment to loving and helping others. He had a heart for mission work and was continually involved in reaching out to the homeless community.  W.N. (Pastor Otwell), was a wonderful pastor of Heritage Baptist Church and continued to be a valuable asset and great influence to the church even after retirement.

W.N. was a family man! Everyone who was around him for more than a minute or two knew these things about him, this man loved Jesus Christ, the Word of God and He loved his family.  His church family was always just an extension of family to Brother Otwell and his door was always open. He was known as a true friend to preachers all across the country. God used him in such a way that only eternity itself will reveal the impact this pastor’s surrendered life had on the lives of countless men, women, boys and girls.

W.N. was preceded in death by his father, Will, his mother Josephine, his brother George and his grandson Matthew.  He is survived by his wife Charlotte, (Granny), his three children and their spouses Rocky and Donna Otwell, Randy and Debbie Otwell and Dale and Sarah Seekford, his sisters Billie Jean Goodwin, Imojean Morehead & husband William and Mary Ann Otwell, as well as 15 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
