Darla Jean Higgins

Funeral Services for Mrs. Darla Higgins, 53, of Jefferson, Texas are scheduled for Thursday, July 23, 2020 at 11am in the Cpt. Wm. Perry Chapel of Haggard Funeral Home with Dr. Jeff Taylor officiating.  A time of visitation will be held from 10 to 11am prior to the service. 

Darla Higgins was born August 11, 1966 in Memphis, TN to Eugene Solon Jackson and Wanda Lou Bourland Jackson and passed away July 19, 2020 in Longview, Texas.

Darla was preceded in death by her father.

Darla had the most incredible and infectious laugh and smile and anyone that had the true fortune of meeting her would be the first to point that out. You could not help but laugh and be happy around her. The obvious irony here is that Darla, having been an incredibly talented writer and journalist for her entire career, would be best suited to write this. Then again knowing Darla and her humble nature she would not do herself justice.  In the spirit of trying to do her proud you should simply know that she had the most gentle and beautiful heart and soul. She loved all things mid-century and her happiest places on the planet were Jefferson, TX and The Fredonia in Nacogdoches, TX. If you have been to either and knew Darla this would go without saying. She truly loved her kids and family and will be sorely missed. 

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Matt Higgins; mother, Wanda Jackson; son, Jake Atlas; daughter, Emily Atlas; brother, Terry Jackson & Margaret; brother, Johnny Jackson & Mandy; sister, Ilinda Parham & Mike as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked for donations to be made to the Jefferson Texas Burn Benefit at: Auntie Skinners Attn. Burn Benefit 107 West Austin Street, Jefferson, TX 75657 or a charity of your choice.

Pallbearers will be Mike Parham, Terry Jackson, Johnny Jackson and Jake Atlas.
