Darrell Weitzell Obituary

Cremation arrangements for Mr. Darrell Dwayne Weitzell, 80, of Jefferson, Texas are being conducted under the direction of Haggard Funeral Home in Jefferson, Texas. Darrell Dwayne Weitzell was born April 12, 1940 in Marshalltown, Iowa to Max Weitzell and Mary Downing Weitzell and passed away on July 29, 2020 in Longview, Texas. Darrell was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sally Kay Weitzell; his sister, Dorothy McConnel; and his brother, Charles Louis Brierley.

Darrell joined the Navy as a young man and enjoyed both the many adventures he was a part of and the many places he traveled to while serving his country. After retiring as a Chief Petty-Officer, he and his family moved to the Loveland and Fort Collins area in Colorado where he worked at E.S.A.B. Automation for 15 years. Darrell then started his own woodworking, deck-building business and continued successfully for many years, often hiring his grandchildren, nephews, nieces to work along beside him.

Darrell enjoyed traveling around the world and throughout the U.S. with his wife, Sally, visiting vineyards, museums, and wherever the road took them. Often taking their children and grandchildren with them. His children and grandchildren have many wonderful memories of watching cartoons in the morning and playing board games in the evening with him. He and his family loved doing everything together. From fishing and camping to star gazing and sightseeing, he was always coming up with new adventures for them to do together.

Because of his beautiful woodworking skills and his desire to always be busy, Darrell has left behind many hand-made treasures for his family and friends to enjoy and remember him by. Those left to cherish his memory are: daughter, Shawnette Kay Rouse & Ronnie of Jefferson, Texas; son, Scott Dwayne Weitzell & Heather of Waco, Texas; sister, Etta Darlene Hays of Merrifield, Minnesota; 10 grandchildren, Joshua, Melissa, Brandie, Benjamin, Renee, Lacy, Sierra, Zach, Samuel, and Jacob; 22 great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
