David Simpson Obituary

Memorial services for Mr. David Brad Simpson, 69, of Jefferson, Texas will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday December 7, 2019 at the Capt. Wm. Perry Chapel of Haggard Funeral Home with Brother John Givens and Billy Brewer officiating.

David Bradford “Brad” Simpson was born September 19, 1950 in Marshall, Texas and passed away November 19, 2019 in Longview, Texas.  He was a member of the Prospect Baptist Church in Jefferson, TX. Brad loved life and tried to live it daily walking with the Lord.   Spending time with family, attending church, Bible study and visiting with friends were among the things that he enjoyed doing. He was a caring father, brother and friend and would have done anything for anyone. He was a Landman in the Oil and Gas Industry and also worked in the timber business for many years. He loved the outdoors and his hobbies were hunting and fishing.  Fishing was his passion. Rain or shine, hot or cold, he loved to be on the water.

His battle with cancer began a little over a year ago.  Upon learning of his diagnosis he said that he was going to fight the fight the best he could but that he had put it in God’s hands.  He said that there were lots of things he’d like to do and places he’d like to go but if he didn’t get to do those things or go to those places that it was okay because that meant God had other plans. Although the treatment was harsh at times he hardly ever complained.  He said many times that there were others that were in a lot worse shape than him.  When people asked how he was doing most of the time he’d say he was fine.  Even in his last days at the hospital he would ask people how they were doing and how their family was.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Geraldine Brooks Haggard, his father, Lyle Thornton Simpson, step-mother Dorothy Simpson and step-sister Susan Dorgan.

Those left to cherish his memory are his son, David Simpson and wife Meredith, daughter’s Holley Kotulla and husband Rolf, Chelsea Udkler and husband Zachary, grandchildren Mary Karen and William Simpson, Devin Dies and sister’s Jan Lester and husband George “Butch”, step-sister Julia Elwood and husband David and a step-brother Jimmy Marshall and Wife Brigetta. He also had many nieces and nephews.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Mark Roraback, Mike Moore, Matt Morgan, Nolan Brooks, Steve King, Joe Pool, Mike Johnson and Milton Johnson.
