A celebration of life for Deedra “DeDe” Cummins – Woods will be held at a later date. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
Deedra Faye Cummins-Woods, affectionately known as DeDe, passed away surrounded by her loving family on March 15, 2025, in Jefferson, Texas. Born on October 25, 1960, to Andrew and Patricia Burleson, DeDe spent her life dedicated to education and her family.
DeDe graduated from Amarillo High School and went on to earn her Master's Degree in Education from Texas A&M Commerce. She devoted 17 years to teaching English and Special Education in various school districts, including Mesquite, Canyon, Canton, and Royse City. Her passion for teaching and her unwavering commitment to her students left an indelible mark on every community she served.
In 2019, DeDe fulfilled a lifelong dream by traveling to Israel, a trip that brought her immense joy and fulfillment. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, with her children and grandchildren being the center of her universe.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Patricia Burleson.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Don Woods; children, Jessica Cummins, Andrew Cummins, and Cheyenne Woods; sisters, Marcy Tow and husband Scott and Esther Gibson and husband Hoot; grandchildren, Jaidalyn McKenzie, Jeremiah McKenzie, Jenna Culver, Elijah and Emmi Cummins; aunts, Barbara Cluck, Sammie Hurt and husband Mike, and Mary Lou Mathews; mother-in-law, Melba Woods. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
