Dennis J. McCarthy died on October 10, 2024, in Jefferson, Texas. He was born in Fulton, NY on February 22, 1940, to the late Marjorie Crofoot McCarthy and Philip S. McCarthy. Predeceased by his high school sweetheart and wife of 53 years Charlotte R.( Dorgan) McCarthy and grandson Philip S. McCarthy. Dennis was a welder by trade and was a lifelong sports enthusiast. He truly loved watching any sport his son Dennis played and the camaraderie of all those teams. He found joy talking about all of his grandkids playing sports from their youth teams all the way through their college teams. He was an avid hunter and was also known as “The Hawg Man” in Holly Lake, TX as he loved to trap wild boar. He also enjoyed a blackjack tournament table.

Dennis is survived by his 4 children, Terry (Cecil) Moore, of Jefferson TX, Becky (William II) Sitzer, of Lake Havasu, AZ, Dennis J. McCarthy II, of Cortland, NY and Susan (Gary) Hurlbut, of Hannibal, NY. Grandchildren: William (Lauren) Sitzer III, Jason (Tiarra) Sitzer, Syracuse (Monica Pando) Sitzer, Amy (James) Hitchcock, Steven (Amber) Montana II, Sara (Corey) Young, Dennis McCarthy III, Faren (Kevin) Stone, Jeremy (Chelsea) Hurlbut, Jennifer (Justin Stevens) Hurlbut. Great Grandchildren: Arianna, Alexis, Jayden, Nevaeh, Xavier, Ava, Lily, Christian, Julian, Dylan, Madalyn, Addison, Michael, Markaila, Jaxon, Syracuse Jr., Benny Rae, Rosalie, Theo, Zoe, Bailey, Parker, Cooper and Charleigh. Great, Great Granddaughter: Avalyn Sister Nancy (Larry) Klatt, of Adkins, TX.  Sister-in-law Wanda (Dorgan) Middlebrook, of Clifton Springs, NY.  Brothers-in-law Bobby (Theresa) Dorgan, Phelps, NY, Stuart (Mary) Dorgan, Canandaigua, NY, James Loughlin, Victor, NY and Harlow Blackburn, Seneca Falls, NY. Aunt Patricia (McCarthy) Simpson of Fulton, NY and many nieces and nephews.

At Dennis’s wishes there will be no services. Burial will be private at Oakwood Cemetery in Jefferson, Texas.
