Dorothy (Upchurch) Webster

Graveside Services for Dorothy Webster, 85, of Avinger, Texas will be held on Monday, April 20, 2026, at 11:00am at Mims Chapel Cemetery with Dr. Warren Johnson officiating and under the direction of Haggard Funeral Home.

Dorothy was born on September 10, 1940 in Geneva, New York to Herbert Franklin Upchurch and Dorothy Annabel Oaks.  Oh, what a glorious reunion surely must have taken place at Heaven’s gate on Thursday evening, April 16, 2026 when Dorothy Garnet Webster was met there by her loving husband of 60 years, Virgil Webster and her loving son Robert James Webster.

Dorothy and Virgil were married on February 16, 1959 and were richly blessed in the years to follow with 3 beautiful children, Robert James, Merrilee Mae, and Melanie Marie who in turn blessed  Dorothy and Virgil with 6 beautiful grandchildren who in turn blessed them with 11 great grandchildren. She was affectionately called “Gram” by her family and lovingly called “Dort” within the community.  Dort was employed at the First State Bank of Avinger for many years where she “never met a stranger”.  She always had a smile and kind word for everyone she met. She was also a founding member of Lassater Methodist Church where she served as the Secretary and Treasurer for 55 years. Her kindness, faith, and love for her family are just a few of her many wonderful attributes.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Earl; son, Robert James; parents; father and mother-in-law, Jack and Maggie Mae Webster; and brother, Robert Upchurch.

Those left to cherish her memory are her 2 daughters, Merrilee Glover and husband Mark and Melanie Knight and husband Keith; 6 grandchildren, Christian Glover, Rusty Knight, Jonathan Glover, Ryan Knight, Mallory Webster, and Kaitlin Webster; 11 great grandchildren; brother, Jon Upchurch and wife Linda; sisters Tammy King and husband Marland, and JoAnn Young.  She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

The pallbearers will be Mark Glover, Keith Knight, Christian Glover, Rusty Knight, Jonathan Glover, Ryan Knight, and Frank Hollis.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Lassater Methodist Church, P.O. Box 871 Jefferson, Texas 75657.
