Francis Wooten Obituary

Visitation for Francis Wayne Wooten, 91 of Avinger, TX. will be held on Monday, April 20, 2026, from 2:00-3:00pm in the Cpt. Wm. Perry Chapel of Haggard Funeral Home and under the direction of Haggard Funeral Home. A private Burial will follow at the Wooten Family Cemetery.

Wayne was born on May 19, 1934, in Parkin Arkansas. The family moved to Cotton Valley Louisiana in 1939, where Wayne started elementary school. The family later moved to Haynesville and Arcadia before settling in Haughton, Louisiana, where he attended high school. While attending Haughton High he met Betty Joyce Porter, who later became the love of his life. Wayne and Joyce married in 1956 at Princeton Baptist Church in Princeton Louisiana. Wayne retired from Amoco Production Company after 27 years of employment. During his career, Wayne and Joyce lived in various geographical areas, ranging from North Louisiana, East Texas, South Louisiana, West Texas and Cairo Egypt. In retirement, they settled near Avinger Texas in 1994 where they spent the remainder of their lives near their son Jim and their daughter in Law Patricia. The close proximity to his family provided the opportunity provide a significant contribution to the lives of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Wayne served as an ordained deacon and servant of the Baptist churches in most of areas in which he and Joyce lived. Wayne was an avid gardener, fisherman and golfer. Wayne went to be with the Lord on April 15, 2026, at the age of 91 years.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Wooten and his infant daughter, Frances Diann; parents, Ben Wallace Wooten of Minden, Texas and Esma Lee Hicks Wooten of Haughton, Louisiana; sister, Drucilla Dean and husband Hollis of Shreveport; brothers, Ben Wallace Wooten, Jr. of Thibodeaux, Louisiana and Dale Wooten of Texarkana.

Those left to cherish his memory are his brother, James Edward Wooten and wife Linda of Rosenburg, Texas; sister in law, Genola Wooten of Texarkana; son, James Wooten and his wife Patricia of Avinger, Texas; grandchildren, Emilee Frances Redmon and husband Aaron of Lindale, Texas, Hailee Diann Hernandes and husband Henry of Lindale, Texas, James Christopher Wooten and wife Carmen of Mesquite, Texas; great grandchildren, Oliver James Redmon of Lindale, Texas, Lily Ann Redmon of Lindale, Texas. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

The family wishes to thank the Staff of Longview Regional Medical Center, Longview Regional Medical Center’s Liberty City Clinic, Longview Regional Medical Center’s Cardiology Clinic, Chambers Hospice and Texas Oncology, for their dedication and professionalism while providing care to Wayne during his illness.
