Frederick Mank, IV Obituary

Memorial Services for Frederick "Rick" Mank, IV, 55, of Jefferson, Texas will be held on Saturday July 1, 2023, at 2pm in the Cpt. Wm. Perry Chapel of Haggard Funeral Home in Jefferson, Texas with Scott McCain officiating and under the direction of Haggard Funeral Home.

On Saturday, April 15, 2023, Frederick “Rick” Metzger Mank, IV, loving son, brother, and a friend to many, was found deceased in his home in Jefferson, TX at the age of 55.

Rickey, as he was known by his family, was born on March 25, 1968, in Dallas, TX to Frederick and Barbara (McDaniel) Mank. He was the third of six children and their only son.

Rickey was raised in Mesquite and graduated from North Mesquite High School in 1987. From there he worked a variety of jobs and honed his skills as a handyman and a jack-of-all-trades. He spent countless hours with his family and loved entertaining his nieces and nephews. He had special nicknames for each one of us. Eventually Rick ended up in Jefferson, which he called home for over 15 years. Rick loved it there and made many friends with his easy smile, goofy sense of humor, and his beautiful blue eyes.

After several years of providing home repairs and remodeling to his customers, he found his place working as a ranch hand for Jerry and Jo Lopez at Crooked Creek Ranch. For the past five years, he greatly enjoyed being outdoors and working with the cattle. He was especially proud of the calves that were born and loved telling stories to his family about them and his work at the ranch.

In addition, he was an avid outdoorsman too. If he wasn’t hunting for deer, ducks or wild hogs, he had a trotline set for catfish. He even had the opportunity to fish for rainbow trout in the Missouri River in Montana with his nephews, Nate, Timmy and Asa. He took great pride in cooking up his wild game and was an expert when it came to deep-frying turkeys and smoking briskets too.

Rick was preceded in death by his mother, Bobbi; his paternal grandparents, Fred and Edna Mank; his maternal grandparents, Thomas and Gertrude McDaniel, and his beloved dog and companion, Dawgfish.

He is survived by his father, Frederick Mank of Mesquite; his sisters, Marybeth Mank of Mesquite; Felicia O’Brien of Great Falls, MT; Kimberly Hrncir of Mesquite; Laura (Greg) Davis of Daleville, MS; Melanie (Randon) Hibberd of Denton, as well as aunts and uncles, several cousins, many nieces and nephews and lots of friends.

Rick will be deeply missed by his family and friends. A memorial service will be held at a later date. If desired, donations may be made in Rick’s name to Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation or to your local animal shelter.

Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be Randy Hibberd, James Keahey, Jason Smith, Jim Clinton, Thomas McEntire, and Scott Clark.
