Gary True Prentice

Funeral services for Mr. Gary True Prentice, 66, of Carthage, Texas will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday September 14, 2021, at Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church in Gary, Texas with Pastor Jared Brown and Pastor Rocky Otwell officiating, under the direction of Haggard Funeral Home of Jefferson, TX. There will be a time of visitation with family and friends from 12:30PM-1:00PM prior to the service. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Heights Cemetery in Mt. Enterprise, TX.

Early on the morning of Friday September 10, 2021, Gary True Prentice took his last earthly breath and was gently escorted into the glorious presence of his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.  Gary was only a youngster when the Lord opened His heart and eyes to the wonderful truth of the gospel.  A few years later, while in his early 20’s, God’s providence led him to Panola Baptist Temple in Carthage TX , Pastor W.N. Otwell where Gary surrendered His heart to serve and preach the gospel.  It was here that Gary met Virginia Kay Pierce. They were married on December 31, 1977 and faithfully served the Lord together for 43 years, until she preceded him into glory just a few short weeks ago. 

Gary was a man who dearly loved his Lord, his wife, his four boys, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He devoted his life to God’s service, spending over 40 years, as he always put it, being a faithful “Timothy,” to his belated friend and  Pastor, W. N. Otwell.  Anyone who knew Bro. Gary, knew of his desire to put Christ first in his life and to be the kind of husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and servant that the Lord wanted him to be.

Though, Brother Gary and Sister Kay Prentice are no longer with us, we are supremely blessed everyday by the wonderful living testimony they left behind in four boys and their families who continue to faithfully carry on their legacy.

Gary was preceded in death by his mother and father, Fay and Leeland True; his wife, Virginia Kay Prentice and his grandson Levi-Colton Prentice.

Those left to carry the faith and cherish his memory are son, Donaven Brines, his wife Lisa and daughter Aster Nova; his son, Bradley Kersh, his wife Elisahah; their son Caleb and his wife Destinie; sons Josh and Thomas; daughters Dusty and Charity; his son, G.T Prentice, his wife Sarah; their son Zachary and his wife Mary and son Marcus; their sons Benjamin and Jacob; their daughter Heather Kristine; his son, Chad Prentice, his wife Christi; their son Clayton and daughters Caitlyn and Caylee Mae; his son, Scotty Prentice, his wife Carmen; daughters Madison and Chloe and son Ty; and his and Mrs. Kay’s adopted son, Michael Bush.

Serving as pallbearers will be Caleb Kersh, Mike Rushing, Joshua Kersh, Ben Prentice, Jacob Prentice and Clayton Prentice.

Honorary pallbearers will be Thomas Kersh, Zachary Prentice  and Ty Prentice.
