Gloria Ferrell Roe was born July 15, 1946, in Linden, TX to William Vernon and Agnes Estelle (Trumble) Ferrell and passed away on March 3, 2025 in Jefferson, TX after a courageous battle with dementia.

Gloria was the youngest of two and was raised in Linden with her sister, Josephine. They loved being together and living close to everything that downtown had to offer. Additionally, Gloria could be found in the passenger seat of Vernon’s Premier Fuel Truck delivering fuel for the station or stopping off to see if they could catch a fish or two before heading back to Linden. While in school she participated in UIL events and marching band, even meeting John F. Kennedy while he was campaigning in Texarkana,Texas. Gloria graduated cosmetology school prior to her graduation from Linden-KIldare High School in May 1964.

After a brief enrollment at Sam Houston State College, Gloria made Jefferson her home. During the early years of her time in Jefferson she worked for Dot Blevins before becoming a permanent fixture at Nadine’s Beauty Shop and moving through three separate locations with Nadine Joseph. They remained close friends for 61 years sharing family, clients, and church.

While in Jefferson, she met her forever love and married Jeffrey Burl Roe on November 22, 1966 at Christ Episcopal Church, Jefferson in time to make their honeymoon trip to College Station and on to Austin for Texas Aggie Football and thus began a 58 year love that lasted through three homes, two children (John and Sara), many road and boat trip adventures, as well as 56 duck seasons.

Gloria could always be found with one or both of the kids doing whatever was needed to help with Dixie League Baseball, Cub Scouts, Campfire, Sunday School, or Junior Historians.  Additionally, she enjoyed her time volunteering in the Episcopal Women’s Club, the 1933 Study Club and at the Jefferson Historical Museum. Gloria was recently awarded her 50 year membership pin from the Jefferson Order of Eastern Star.
