Funeral Services for Janelle Lynn Bonnette Dougherty, age 82, of Jefferson, TX., will be held on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at 2:00 pm in the Cpt. Wm. Perry Chapel of Haggard Funeral Home. A time of Visitation will be held Monday, August 4, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm in the Cpt. Wm. Perry Chapel of Haggard Funeral Home in Jefferson, Texas.
Janelle (Lynn) was born March 12, 1943, in Natchitoches, Louisiana, to Julius Andrew and Vera Lee Bonnette. She passed away peacefully on July 30, 2025, at Longview Regional Medical Center.
During Janelle’s youth, she and her family traveled halfway around the world while her father was serving in the U.S. Army Air Corp, later to become the U.S. Air Force, stationed and living in exciting places, to include Tripoli, Libya (Africa). Janelle has told of the many fond memories she had of her travels and experiences as a little girl.
Janelle had many interests and hobbies she enjoyed such as reading (her favorite pastime), knitting, beekeeping, belly dancing, square and round dancing, painting and drawing (which she has many of her works framed and displayed at her home), and rock collecting. She also loved to travel and has visited many different countries and states.
Janelle was also certified as a Master Naturalist, dedicated to the beneficial management of natural resources and natural areas within her community for the State of Texas.
Over the years, one of her favorite sports was bowling. Janelle loved to bowl and was involved in many Louisiana and Texas women and mixed bowling leagues.
While attending University of Texas located in Arlington, Texas, Janelle was a straight A student and enjoyed spending her time in theater, performing in many roles in numerous plays over the course of her studies.
Janelle was a member of the Rainbow girls, a Masonic youth service organization that teaches leadership training through community service. She also was involved in scouting as a Den Mother where she served as a positive role model and adult friend to the boys in her den and was responsible for such practical matters as running den meetings and fostering relationships with den families.
Janelle was an active member with Cumberland Presbyterian Church and attended services on Sundays and bible study on Wednesdays.
Janelle Lynn Bonnette was married to John Clifford Dougherty III on January 12, 1962, in Shreveport. She was a committed and loyal wife of 58 years of marriage and a caring and loving mother.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Julius and Vera Bonnette, her husband, John Dougherty III, and sister, Judy Hicks.
She is survived by her three children: son, Michael Dougherty; daughter, Lora Dougherty; son, Joseph Dougherty and wife Jessica; grandchildren, Jonathan Forbes, Lindsey Moles, Michael Dougherty II, Brenna Dougherty, Angel Dougherty, Joshua Dougherty and Connor Dougherty; 7 great grandchildren. Also surviving is her sister, Ann Coleman of New Braunfels, Texas.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Bill DeWare, Loran McKerley, Jon Marc Morris, Austin Morris, Joseph Dougherty, Michael Dougherty. Services are entrusted to Haggard Funeral Home. Officiating Pastor Shane Shaddix.
