Funeral services for Mr. Joe Edward McKnight, 62, of Jefferson, Texas will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at The Capt. Wm. Perry Chapel of Haggard Funeral Home with Brother Donnie Barron and John Derrick officiating under the direction of Haggard Funeral Home. A time for visitation is scheduled on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at The Capt. Wm. Perry Chapel of Haggard Funeral Home. Interment will be at Savannah Cemetery following funeral services on Wednesday, February 3, 2021. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic and State guidelines, we want to remind everyone to practice proper safety and social distancing. Mr. McKnight passed away peacefully at his home in Jefferson, Texas on January 31, 2021.
Joe Edward McKnight was born April 26, 1958 in Marshall, Texas to J.C. “Sonny” McKnight and Lawana Gayle Russell McKnight. Mr. McKnight worked in the oilfield from 1974-2006. He married the love of his life, Kim Derrick on June 3, 1978 after which they shared 42 years of happy marriage together. During those 42 years they were blessed with two children, Wendy and Russell. Joe was a dual member of both the Jefferson Masonic Lodge #38 A.F. & A.M. as well as the Jim’s Bayou Masonic Lodge #491 A.F. & A.M. He was a member of the Smithland Volunteer Fire Department for over 20 years and served as a Marion County Commissioner for the last 10 years. Joe loved spending time in the outdoors whether it be hunting or fishing. His priority was always family, but his greatest joy came from spending time with his grandkids.
Preceding Mr. McKnight in death were his parents and brother, Charles McKnight.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Kim McKnight; daughter, Wendy Shelton; son, Russell McKnight and wife Kim; brother, David McKnight and wife Betty; grandchildren, Peyton Turner, Trenton McKnight, Presley Turner, Lila McKnight, and Heath Shelton; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Charlie Treadwell, Glenn Dorough, J.R. Ashley, Eddie Wachter, Glenn Sims, Jacob Pattison and Terry Lemmon.
