Kelley Arnold Reed, 65, passed away at his home on Monday July 15, 2024, after a hard-fought battle with cancer.
He was born in Atlanta, Texas to Forrest G. Reed, Sr. and Barbara Joyce Flippo Duncan on February 9, 1959. He was raised in Jefferson, Texas and attended Linden-Kildare High School. He was baptized at New Prospect Baptist Church, and he reaffirmed his faith in June 2024. Kelley enjoyed working with his hands, leading to jobs that included maintaining tires and fueling big trucks, bailing hay, and construction projects that took him to parts of Utah and Colorado. However, he spent most of his life driving big trucks, a skill he learned from his brother, Billy. His favorite pastimes included anything that allowed him to piddle outside and tinker with engines. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, back roading in the country, and playing Monopoly.
Kelley was a fighter. His rugged toughness allowed him to bounce back from a broken neck, punctured lungs, and a heart attack throughout his life. When faced with the next big obstacle - his cancer diagnosis - he was ready to give it hell. He held on strong through 27 rounds of chemo and multiple operations. He did not lose to cancer; he beat cancer by the way he lived, by the way he fought, and by the way he loved.
Kelley is preceded in death by his parents, Forrest G. Reed, Sr. and Barbara Joyce Flippo Duncan. He is survived by his brothers, Billy Duncan and Forrest G. Reed, Jr.; his daughter, Kayci Reed; and his grandchildren, Demetrius, Harmony, Uriah, and Caleb.
