Memorial Services for Laura Jean Ellard Muckleroy, 92, of Jefferson, Texas will be held on Saturday March 15, 2025, at 11:00 am in the Cpt. Wm. Perry Chapel of Haggard Funeral Home with Bro. Dennis Morris officiating and under the direction of Haggard Funeral Home. A time of visitation will be held after the service in the Cpt. Wm. Perry Chapel of Haggard Funeral Home.
Laura Jean Ellard Muckleroy, the youngest of 4 children, was born on October 8, 1932, in Atlanta, Tx to John Frank Ellard and Allie Naomi Wolfe Ellard. She passed away peacefully on the morning of March 10, 2025. She attended school in Marshall, Tx, where she was a drum major for the Marshall High School Band. After graduation she began her career as a legal secretary for local attorney Ernest F. Smith. She retired in 1998 after working for attorney and long-time friend, William H. “Bill” Huffman.
She married James Hamilton “Jim” Muckleroy on June 8, 1952. They shared 56 years of marriage until his death in 2008. Their marriage was a true testament of love, respect, admiration, and faith in God. Laura lived her life as a devoted servant for the Lord and constantly put others before herself. She was a life-long member of the Church of Christ, the last 47 years as a faithful member of Jefferson Church of Christ. In recent years, if she was unable to attend church services she would listen to the sermon on her phone. Her faith, love for God, love for family and friends, sense of humor, and ability to recall stories and events of her life never failed her, even in her final days. She always kept in touch with her many friends of all ages, some of whom she had known since grade school.
Laura was predeceased by her parents, her husband, brother, H.D. “Jim” Ellard, and sisters, Frances E. Green and Billie Hightower.
Survivors include daughters, Janet Ellen Breckenridge (Wesley), Amy L. Carwile (Dennis), and Claire Estep (Teddy); grandchildren, Chase Breckenridge (Jessie), Clay Breckenridge (Jimi), Vanessa Estep, Jamie Stewart, Trey Stewart (Adrianna); step grandsons, Josh Carwile and Daniel Carwile; great grandchildren, Jace, Cade, Beau, Peyton, and Hannah Breckenridge, Caroline and Savannah Larson, and Isabella and Dennis Stewart. She is also survived by her special nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
We would like to thank the staff at Reunion Inn Assisted Living (Marshall Tx.) and Accent Care and Hospice for their dedicated and compassionate care for Mom.
