Leon D. Leonard Sr., 71, of Jefferson, passed away July 20th, 2021. He continued to give what he could to all those around even through his battle sharing his love, laughter, and joy.

He was born in Dayton, Ohio to Delmar and Lois Leonard on March 15th, 1950. Leon was married to Christy Leonard who preceded him in death. He is now reunited with his mother, father and wife.

Leon D. Leonard Sr. was enlisted in the Air Force in the late 60’s and served his country overseas including Turkey and Spain, where his son James Leonard was born. His goal in life has always been to serve others and to protect them from themselves or from others who may want to do harm. He became a police officer by meeting the Texas Commission law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education in April of 1980 and was also a certified county jailer. He would go on to work as a police officer all over the state of Texas including holding the office of Chief of Police in Knox City, Tx and Jefferson, TX. He later moved on to graduate from the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Glynco, Georgia on May 30th, 1990, and qualify as an Expert on the pistol practice course. After his duties were complete again from serving his country, he went back to figuring out his path by graduating once again from school and becoming a Certified Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor on July 1st, 1999. Mr. Leonard’s last calling was to spread his love and joy of God. He went back to school one last time and graduated from the School of Christian Studies at East Texas Baptist University in April of 2016 and was officially ordained on Sunday, September 6th at County Line Baptist Church Harleton, TX where he remained pastor until his sickness became too much for him to continue his work in that role in November of 2020.
