Graveside services for Marshall Lee Owens, 67, of Jefferson, Texas will be held at Avinger Cemetery in Avinger, Texas on Monday October 28, 2024, at 11:00am with Judge Leward LaFluer officiating and under the direction of Haggard Funeral Home. A time of visitation will be held on Sunday October 27, 2024, from 6:00 to 8:00pm in the Cpt. Wm. Perry Chapel of Haggard Funeral Home.
Marshall Lee Owens, 67, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 23, after a brief illness. Born October 2, 1957, Marshall was the youngest child of Carl and Mary “Sis” Owens of Avinger, Texas. He graduated from Avinger High School in 1975, and then attended Tyler Junior College, where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon. He later received his forestry technician degree from Panola College. After working for International Paper Company as a forest tech, he joined the family timber business, where he worked for more than three decades. Marshall had a passion for cars and motorcycles, and especially enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by two sisters, Kathy Duvall of Jefferson and Tracy Torma of Palestine; three nieces, Heather Durham (and husband, Brandon) of Longview, Jamie Turner (and husband, Mike) of Alvarado, and MK Northum, of Pasadena, California; two nephews, Thomas Torma (and wife, Pam and children, Trinity and Ava), and Patrick Torma, all from Houston; and a great nephew Byron Duffey.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marshall’s memory to the Avinger Volunteer Fire Department (102 Church Street, Avinger, TX 75630), where he once served as a volunteer.
