Funeral Services for Patsy Shelton Ross Harmon, 74 of Jefferson, Texas will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2024, in the Cpt. Wm. Perry Chapel of Haggard Funeral Home at 2:00pm with Pastor Marvin Bartlett and Pastor Jeremy Roberts officiating and under the direction of Haggard Funeral Home. A time of visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, from 6:00 to 8:00pm in the Cpt. Wm. Perry Chapel of Haggard Funeral Home.

Patsy Shelton Ross Harmon of Jefferson Texas passed from this world on November 30, 2024.

Patsy Alfreida Shelton was born in an early snowstorm on November 30, 1950, at home near Ortiz, Kentucky, to Lester Ogle Shelton and Mary Ruth Harmon Shelton. She grew up an only child on the family farm with her parents and her paternal uncle, William Presley “Uncle Dooney” Shelton, and her four paternal aunts, Ora Izma “Aunt Iz” Shelton, Polly Katherine “Aunt Polly” Shelton, Tula Carruth “Aunt Tula” Shelton, and Zultra Vaden “Aunt Cushie” Shelton.

Patsy was associated with Mt. Lebanon General Baptist Church of Ortiz, Kentucky, Immanuel Baptist Church of Marshall, Texas, and Pope City Baptist Church of Woodlawn, Texas.

Patsy graduated from Sebree (Kentucky) Elementary school, Webster County High School, Murray State University with majors in Library Science and Psychology and a minor in Education, and the University of Alabama with a Masters in Library Science. In high school, she played the flute and sang alto in the choir.

She is best known in this area as a former Director of the Marshall Public Library from 1991 to 2006. She was a librarian also at Tyler Junior College, the South Carolina Department of Corrections, the University of South Carolina, the University of Hawaii, the University of Alabama, Governors State University of Park Forest South, Illinois, Crete-Monee High School, and Calloway County High School in Kentucky.

After retirement from the City of Marshall, she was a licensed real estate broker or agent and was associated with Marshall Land Realty, Jack Harmon Realty, and her own business, A to Z Real Estate Services.

Over the years, Patsy was an active member of the American Library Association (ALA), the South Eastern Library Association, various state library associations, the Serials Group, and the Academic Group of the ALA, the American Psychology Association, Tau Phi Lamda, Little Sisters of the Golden Heart, National Association of Realtors, Texas Association of Realtors, Longview Area Association of Realtors, Marshall Association of Realtors, 4-H, American Meat Goat Association, East Texas Goat Raisers Association, Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association, Cashmere America, Texas Cashmere Association, American Poultry Association, Friends of a Public Library, Marshall Chamber of Commerce, Harrison County Historical Commission, Texas Federation of Republican Women, Harrison County Republican Women, National Rifle Association, Citizens for Better Government, Dragonflies, Marshall Lady Lions, Rotary International, and Marshall Metro Rotary.

Patsy was preceded in death by her parents, her paternal uncle and aunts, her maternal uncles and aunts, Etta Mae Harmon Hampton, Georgie Lee Harmon, M.C. Harmon, Paul Everette Harmon, and Augusta Harmon Miller Hodges, her grandparents, Thomas Henry (T.H.) “Tom” Shelton, Anna Lyle “Annie” Grissom Shelton, Mack Harmon, Etta Marks Harmon, and multiple cousins.

She is survived by her canine companion, Rosalinda Vom Harmon of Pine Rose and her trainer Connie Philipp. Her special friend, James Brent Barron of Jefferson and Houston, Texas, and his family, Ruedelle Moreau, James Brent Barron II and wife, Janet, Rachael Chapa and husband, Enrique, Linda Elkins and husband, Wesley, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also, two former husbands, James William “Jim” Ross of Savanah, Tennessee and Cincinnati, Ohio, Jack Murray “Fuzzy” Harmon of Marshall, Texas, and friends Emilia and Earl Sasser of North Augusta, South Carolina, and cousins of Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, California, Michigan, Wisconsin, Missouri, Arkansas, Colorado, and Texas.
