Robert “Bobby” Joel Sims Jr. passed away Tuesday September 21, 2021, at Overton Brooks VA Hospital in Shreveport, LA.
He was born January 19, 1947, to Robert Sr. and Donnie (Burgess) Sims in Quitman, TX. He married the love of his life Brenda (East) Sims on October 12, 1968.
He is preceded in death by both of his parents, his mother & father-in-law Mervin & Imogene East, a sister Donnie Joe Tarrant, a brother James “PeeWee” Sims, brothers-in-laws: Charles Tarrant, Neil Cameron, Duane Grundy & Russell East, a nephew Roy Don Burke & a niece Karen Dunn.
He is survived by his wife Brenda of the home, a sister Patricia Ann Cameron of Quitman, TX, and sisters-in-laws: Debby Grundy of Miami, OK, Donna Sims of Quitman, TX & Lisa Jewett of Fairland, OK. He is also survived by several nieces & nephews (also great & great-great), cousins, friends & neighbors whom he considered family.
Bobby grew up and attended school in Quitman, TX. He was drafted into the army in 1966 and served with the 577th Engineer Battalion for 2 years during the Vietnam Conflict. He started working at Wood County Electric Coop in September 1968 where he worked for 35 years before retiring in 2003.
Bob & Brenda moved to the Avinger/Jefferson, TX area in 2004. He was a member of the Liberty Baptist Church in Jefferson, TX. He loved to hunt and fish and tell tall tales with the neighbors. He also loved the reunions with his Vietnam brothers and looked forward to visiting with them.
The Celebration of Life will be October 23, 2021, at 2pm at Liberty Baptist Church 225 County RD 1648 Jefferson, TX. In lieu of flowers the family request contributions be make to Liberty Baptist Church – Jefferson, TX, Simmons Cemetery – Jefferson, TX, or the charity of your choice.
