Steven Woodson Obituary

Funeral Services for Steven Michael Woodson, 59 of Jefferson, Texas will be held on Saturday March 8, 2025, at 10:00am in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Jefferson, Texas with Reverend William “Rusty” Rustenhaven officiating and under the direction of Haggard Funeral Home.

Mr. Woodson was born on December 21,1965 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Charles Sutton Woodson, Jr. and Carolyn Ann Bradshaw and passed away on March 3, 2025, in Jefferson, Texas.

Steve was a graduate of Sam Houston State University and the University of Texas Health Science Center.  As an Oklahoma boy, his love for OU sports never stopped.  Steve used his vast knowledge and experience to develop a successful medical imaging sales career that lasted over 25 years.

Steve became a father with his first wife Catherine and was blessed with a daughter and twin boys.  As a child at heart himself, he considered his children one of his best blessings.

Steve and Christie Freeman met in 2012, and their adventure began!  Marrying in 2014, her two boys added to this blended family that was marked by love, laughter and pets. Steve was a solid parental role model while making any occasion fun.

Once empty nesters, Steve and Christie discovered Jefferson and decided to leave Dallas. Drawn by the history and charm of the welcoming residents, they quickly became involved in numerous organizations and made many friends.

Steve was proud to be a founding member of the much-needed Friends of Jefferson Animals.  He was always available to help with a sick dog, an abandoned litter of puppies or an injured kitten.  Buddy, the resident dog at Made in the Shade, is his favorite rescue and visiting Buddy for a “Buddy Kiss” made his day.

A strong Christian, Steve was proud to be an Elder at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church and help in any way needed.  A lover of the outdoors, Steve served as President of the Greater Caddo Lake Association.  He loved being part of the Krewe and assisting with Mardi Gras, 4th of July and Toys4Tots.

Steve was always supportive of Christie’s volunteer commitments such as Friends of the Jefferson Library and the Jessie Allen Wise Garden Club.  He could always be found at Garden Club fundraising events serving as bartender, washing dishes, moving boxes and making all of us laugh.

He appreciated history and supported the efforts of the Jefferson Historic Foundation and the Historic Jefferson Museum.  Music was dear to him, and he enjoyed attending the symphony in Marshall and Shreveport.

Steve was a “do-er” and believed more people should do instead of just complaining about an issue. If you needed help, he was your guy.

Steve was the perfect mix of a tattooed tough guy, a very intelligent man, tech dude, sports junkie, rascal, solid Christian man, Star Wars geek, auto fanatic, good friend, loving father and devoted husband.

Steve Woodson was loved by many but can be matched by few.  We were all blessed to know him.

He is preceded in death by his father.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Christie Freeman Woodson; mother, Carolyn Bradshaw Woodson; children, Alexandra Grace Starnes and husband Brandon, Cameron Cole Woodson, Christian Sutton Woodson, Dexter James Berend, Alexander Freeman Berend; brother, Jim Woodson and wife Ginger; grandson, Callan Lee Starnes; niece, Isabella Alexis Woodson; nephew, Will Alejandro Woodson. He is also survived by numerous other extended family and friends, pets and his great dane, Andy.
