Thomas Lummus, Jr. Obituary

Memorial Services for Thomas “Tommy” Lummus, Jr., 55, of Longview, Texas will be held on Friday, February 17, 2023 at 11am in the Cpt. Wm. Perry Chapel of Haggard Funeral Home in Jefferson, Texas with Bro. Pete Sellers officiating and under the direction of Haggard Funeral Home.

Thomas “Tommy” Ray Lummus, Jr., of Jefferson, Texas passed away on Monday, February 6, 2023. He was 55 years old.

Tommy was born on August 17, 1967, in Marshall, Texas to Thomas Ray Lummus, Sr., and Becky Lummus. He grew up in Jefferson, Texas,  with his sister and younger brother, working on the farm, having fun with family and friends, and riding horses. Tommy attended Jefferson ISD schools from Kindergarten through twelfth grade (class of 1985), where he played football and baseball and was a Future Farmers of America member. His youth was a memorable time in his life and at any family gathering, he could often be found retelling childhood stories.

Tommy took pride in living on the family farm in Jefferson. He loved working outdoors, riding in the pasture on the tractor, taking care of his horses, and watching old westerns. When he wasn’t riding or caring for the horses, he could be found watching pro football, especially the Dallas Cowboys. He was a member of the Jefferson Livestock and Rodeo Association and a member of River Crossing Cowboy Church.

Tommy was a devoted son, brother, and father. He looked forward to texts, calls, and visits from his son & grandson, siblings, nieces, and nephews.  You were always met with a hug and quiet possibly the threat of a “knuckle sandwich.”

Tommy was a kind, giving, and selfless man who will be missed by many.

He is survived by his mother, Becky Lummus and Steve Duszik of Longview, Texas; father, Thomas Lummus, Sr. of Jefferson, Texas; son, Hunter Higgins, and wife, Johanna of Nacogdoches, Texas and grandson, Atticus Higgins; sister, Brenda (Lummus) McCollum and husband, Craig of Lake Dallas, Texas; brother, Terry Lummus, and wife, Summer of Athens, Texas; in addition to a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages family and friends to make donations in Tommy’s memory to the Jefferson Livestock Association, In care of Susan Anderson, Treasurer, 349 MCR 3300 Jefferson, Texas, 75657.
