Tommy Lee Matthews

Memorial Services for Tommy Lee Matthews, 86, of Jefferson, Texas will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at 11am in the Bethel Baptist Church in Jefferson, TX with Rev. Claude Crocker, and Rev. James Duncan officiating. Cremation arrangements were made under the direction of Haggard Funeral Home.

Tommy was born on March 27, 1937, in Abeline, TX to R.E. Matthews and Mary Wynell Poe Matthews and passed away on August 24, 2023.

He was in the Air Force and had a love for flying and would spend many hours flying his planes. Tommy was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church. He was also an avid sailor on his sailboat and enjoyed being on the water. He loved computers and after 30 years he retired from IBM as a Computer Programmer. For the last nine years Tommy loved living in the country with all his farm animals after spending most of his life in the city.

Tommy is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, David Matthews, and Robert Matthews; The mother of his daughter, Catherine Kachtik Matthews.

Those left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Sharon Matthews; daughter, Diedra Lee Liepelt; stepson, Tommy Lynn Stewart and wife Kera; brother, Phillip Matthews; sisters, Joan Prosser and husband Richard, and Barbara Swetz; grandchildren, Calli Lynn Stewart, Briley Nichole Stewart, Brogan Grayson Stewart, Tatjana Liepelt, and Yelana Liepelt.
