Woodrow “Woody” F. High - beloved husband, father of two, and friend of many - peacefully passed away on November 7, 2022, at the age of 80 in Jefferson, Texas.
Woody was born to Woodrow High Senior and Hazel Myrick-High in Texarkana, Texas then later settled in San Marcos for many years. He enlisted in the Navy at seventeen years old where he served our country abroad. Shortly after he finished his enlistment in the military, he returned to east Texas and worked at the Longhorn Army Ammunition Plant in Karnack.
Woody was an avid fishing and camping enthusiast and had a special gift for cooking, especially when it was brisket. For many years, Woody passionately ran Woody's BBQ (now known as San Marcos BBQ). People would visit from not just Texas, but from across the US. Woody was hardworking and wholeheartedly ran his restaurant until his retirement.
After retiring from the food industry, he pursued a quieter life closer to nature with a property near Caddo Lake outside of Jefferson, TX. He and his wife Norah enjoyed lake life surrounded by good friends and a strong community. At the lake, he could be found working on his property, out on his golf cart or out fishing, probably with a can of dip nearby while doing so.
Woodrow was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Billie Smith, Lawana Henry, and his brother-in-law, Roy Henry. He is survived by his wife, Norah Campuzano-High and his sister and her husband, Sue, and Josh Arnold.
Flowers can be sent to Haggard Funeral Home (203 E Clarksville St, Jefferson, TX 75657).
Memorial services will be held at the Gray Baptist Church, 150 FM 727, Jefferson, Texas at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 12, 2022, with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until service time.
